- It is still unknown whether material from this species is available from sustainably managed, recycled, salvaged, or even environmentally responsible sources.
- The tree can reach a height of about 42m, with a trunk diameter of 120 to 150cm over large buttresses, straight and cylindrical boles are reported to up to 18m in length.
- The sapwood is grayish white in colour and is distinct from the heartwood.
- The heartwood is golden brown, or light grayish brown, or golden brown to dark brown, it is reported to be similar to the colour of teak.
- The grain is typically straight, occasionally interlocked, lighter colour rays are reported to produce an attractive contrast with the darker background wood tissue or quarter sawn surfaces.
- Texture is described as medium and uni-form.
- There is no characteristic oder or taste.
- Seasoned material is reported to be dimensionally stable, and exhibits only small movement in use.
- The heartwood is reported to be naturally resistant to decay, and is very resistant to termite and fungal attack.
