Tiama Specification

  • Tiama is available in the forest of precious wood, located in the Congo Basin of Gabon.
  • Tree attains high up to 40-50m and the diameters normally between 70 and 120cm and sometimes up to 200cm.
  • The trunks are straight and cylindrical and have buttress root board.
  • Freshly sawn Tiama has a pinkish-brown to uniformly red colour, darkening after exposure to dark red brown.
  • The sapwood is up to 100m thick and has grey-white to light pink colour and sometimes Juvenile wood (transition wood ) occurs.
  • Like Kossipo, Tiama contains resin in the wood.
  • The wood structure is straight to irregular and often interlocked.
  • The texture is medium coarse.

Processing Properties:-

    • The machining of Tiama can be done easily, but the presence of resin in the wood structure could cause a blunting effect on the tools.
    • Pre-drilling is recommended.
    • The gluing and finishing properties are good.
    • It dries rather quickly and requires case to prevent severe deformation.
    • Tiama is used for facades, Furniture, stairs, parquet and yacht construction.
    • Furthermore it could be used as a substitute for Sipo and Sapeli.
